Install WordLock

WordLock runs in any browser, no download and no app store. Installing it just adds an icon and drops the browser chrome, so the wheels get the whole screen. Your streak stays put either way.

iPhone & iPad

Safari only. Chrome and Firefox on iOS cannot add to the home screen.

  1. Open wordlock.live in Safari.
  2. Tap the Share button (the square with the arrow) in the bottom bar.
  3. Scroll down and tap Add to Home Screen.
  4. Tap Add. WordLock appears on your home screen like any app.

Good to know

iOS keeps the installed app's storage separate from Safari's. If your streak looks empty in the installed version, that's why: finish a day inside the icon and it starts its own run. Play from one or the other, not both.

Android

  1. Open wordlock.live in Chrome.
  2. Tap Install in the prompt at the bottom, or open the ⋮ menu.
  3. Choose Install app (older Chrome calls it Add to Home screen).
  4. Confirm. The icon lands in your app drawer and home screen.

Good to know

Samsung Internet and Firefox for Android also work: look for Add page to → Home screen in the menu. The install prompt only appears after the page has loaded once, so give it a second.

Desktop

Chrome, Edge, Brave, Arc

  1. Open wordlock.live.
  2. Click the install icon in the address bar (a monitor with a down arrow), or open the browser menu and pick Install WordLock.
  3. Confirm. It opens in its own window from then on.

Safari on Mac

Safari 17 and later: File → Add to Dock.

Firefox

Firefox on desktop does not install web apps. Bookmark it instead: Ctrl/Cmd + D. Everything in the game still works.

Keyboard

WASD or the arrow keys move, Enter or Space unlocks.

If something's off

The puzzle won't load.

WordLock needs one online trip a day to fetch the word. Check your connection, then reload. If it still hangs, the dictionary API may be briefly down; the game falls back to an offline word list.

My streak disappeared.

The streak lives in this browser's local storage. Clearing site data, private browsing, or switching browser or device resets it. There's no account, so it can't follow you across devices.

I'm not on the leaderboard after solving.

Only the first solve of the day counts, and only in daily mode. Replays and practice are unranked on purpose.

The wheels feel stuck on mobile.

Drag straight up or down inside a wheel. A diagonal drag scrolls the page instead. The ▲ and ▼ arrows always work.

An old version keeps loading.

The installed app caches itself for offline play. Close it fully and reopen, or reload the page in the browser once while online.
